O Lord, have mercy!
2 I will make you a great nation; (Genesis 12:2)
Between 1985 and 2003, an estimated 1,347,676 babies were murdered in Australia; they were murdered at an average rate of 70,930 babies a year, which represents a murder rate of 25% of every 100 babies conceived each year; that is, for every four babies conceived, one of the four will be murdered before birth.
If we extrapolate the data, then between 1985 and the end of 2008 the number of murdered babies has been 1,702,326. Worldwide, it is estimated that between 46,000,000 and 48,000,000 babies are murdered each year
I remember when the population of Australia was numbered at 12 million people. In my life time, more than many entire nations of babies have been murdered. And if we consider that many of those babies may have grown up, got married and had children of their own, and that their children may have grown up, got married and had children, and so on for generations, then the number of babies murdered, in the seed of the babies murdered, is uncountable.
3 Surely at the commandment of the LORD this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, 4 and also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the LORD would not pardon. (II Kings 24:3-4)
Very few things does the Lord identify as unpardonable sins, but one thing that He does identify as unpardonable is to fill the land with the shed blood of the innocent (in a judicial sense).
This morning I quake with fear as I contemplate the rivers of innocent blood that stain our land, and the lands throughout the modern developed world - once so-called Christendom. My hands are wet with that innocent blood because I have done so little in my life time to campaign against the wanton carnage.
O Lord, have mercy upon me a poor sinner. O Lord, in Your anger towards such a heinous sin, have mercy upon us poor sinners. Forgive us our sins, for we have greatly sinned against You, the giver and sustainer of life.
