The Eternal House and Kingdom, who inherits the promise?
Furthermore I tell you that the LORD will build you a house[a royal dynasty]. 11 And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. 14 And I will establish him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever. (I Chronicles 17:10b-14)
In the first instance this promise to David was in relation to David's son, Solomon. However, in time, at the fullness of time, Jesus Christ, of the line of David, inherited the promise. In Christ those who are of the Biblical Christian Faith now inherit this promise. As Paul wrote, "they are not all Jews who are Jews outwardly, neither is their circumcision of any value if it is merely outward. They are Jews who are Jews inwardly, whose circumcision is of the heart, and not of the flesh." Therefore, we are the descendants of David who are to build the house which is eternal; we are to establish the throne that is forever; we are members of the eternal house and kingdom of God; we who are the sons of God in Christ Jesus, and who, in Jesus name, call the Living God, "Our Father, which art in heaven ..."
