Helping the wicked
1 Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem. 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Therefore the wrath of the LORD is upon you. (II Chronicles 19:1-2)
In Canada, the Bible is ruled a hate book, and portions of the Bible cannot be read in public. At least one Pastor has been banned for life for ever expressing his Biblical views in any public context on threat of jail for doing so. In Canada, the wicked (homosexuals, and other sexually perverse people) are helped by the Government and court system. In Australia, non-discriminatory social welfare means that wickedness is often rewarded, the wicked are helped, and there is no call to repentance because this expression of "love" from the government and NGO's makes no moral demands. The continuation of this kind of help and love is bringing about a response from the LORD -- bush fires, floods, Global Economic Crisis, overcrowded jails, destruction of public facilities by fed and clothed kids who are bored.
Social welfare is the province of the family and the church. It must always be accompanied with the preaching of the Gospel. In many cases need arises out of sin, and the only answer to sin is repentance, and receiving of the atonement made by Jesus Christ. Without the Gospel, social welfare becomes a bottomless pit that eventually bankrupts the community and the nation.
Just yesterday I heard someone say to me, "I hold no hope for any young person who is being helped by the Department of Child Welfare. Once the Department gets their hands on the kids, they are ruined for life, without hope of change."
The only hope for the wicked is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only hope of forgiveness for past sins, and the only hope of a changed heart from whence flows the issues of life.
