The key to civil liberty.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgement, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

This is the key to civil liberty. When the majority of people live in the fear of God, and regulate their lives according to the law of God, then a culture enjoys great measures of liberty. No one can live in a vacuum. When God is forgotten, and the law of God is trodden under foot, original sin has its day, and to compensate for the general, rampant lawlessness, authorities oppress and restrict and restrain to try and maintain some kind of order.

Ours is a culture that is deteriorating very quickly; men have forgotten God, and no longer live in the conscious awareness of the Great Day of Judgement, and of heaven and hell.

Lord, teach me to number my days, and keep me aware of the fear of God. Fill my heart with love for Your Son, Who is my only hope in the face of Your inevitable, awesome judgements.
